Landslide claims 16 lives in Tawang

TAWANG, Apr 22: Landslide triggered by heavy rain washed out an entire labour camp killing 16 people at Famla village in Tawang. One out of the 16 dead succumbed to injury on his way to hospital, while three narrowly escaped death.
Famla is located 2 km from Tawang headquarters.
The mishap occurred at around 3.30 AM on Friday when the SP type building where the labourers were putting up was hit by the slide caused due to torrential rain.
District police, Indian Army and local public of Tawang under took rescue operation which lasted for about 8 hours.
"Family members of the deceased have been informed about the accident", said one of the survivors.
The laborers were mostly from Assam and Nepal.
The entire district continues to suffer due to heavy rain with reports of landslide and damages to property in several areas. The worst affected areas are - Bomdir FSD, Bomba, Paidhar, New Lebrang, Khremeteng, Ngomadung HDS colony, Lemberdung area, Changporong, Jang, Mukto, Thingbu, Lhou and Shyo Basti area. A bailey bridge of 25 metres span over Bomdir Nallah is at the verge of collapse.
Indian Army sheds around Bomdir area and Rabrang have been relocated as precautionary measures.
The entire district is currently reeling under complete darkness as power transmission poles have been destroyed at different junctions. On Tuesday the water channels of Nuranang hydro-power station were blocked due to landslide.
The NH13 stretch that connects Tawang to the rest of the world have either been blocked by landside or have been washed out due to the continuous rainfall at innumerable locations. Yesterday, two houses were damaged at New Lebrang, HDS colony. On April 14 last, nine houses were damaged at Namet village.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered his condolences.
Meanwhile, MLA Pema Khandu along with Kiren Rijiju, MoS Home is reaching Tawang on Saturday to access the damage in the district.
The dead bodies will be handed over to the next of the kin on Saturday, informed a police source.

announces Ex gratia relief
Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakhs to next of kins of the deceased, Rs 2 lakhs to critically injured, Rs 50,000 and Rs 4,000 to the injured persons as per the relief norms of the govt.
The Chief Minister requested Tawang DC to extend all possible help and assistance to the family members of the victims and those injured.
Pul this morning held a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and apprised him about the prevailing situation in the state due to torrential rains for the last several days. The Chief Minister also talked to Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju. Both the central leaders assured all possible help and support to the State Govt.
The Chief Minister said he is personally monitoring the situation all over the State and had telephonic interactions with 18 Deputy Commissioners enquiring about the prevailing flood situation in their districts. The rest could not be contacted due to communication problem.
He instructed the DCs to remain alert and to keep themselves prepared for any eventuality and also to alert the police, paramilitary forces, ITBP, schools and colleges. He asked them to keep the District Disaster Task Force ready along with sufficient medicines, ration items. He also instructed them to take post flood precautionary measures and to keep Medical and Veterinary teams ready in order to cope with post flood disease or epidemic.
He said that the relief fund shall be released only through the recommendation of DC in order to maintain proper accountability and transparency and said no personal claims will be entertained. He further asked the DCs to give hourly report to the Chief Minister's Office.
The Chief Minister appealed to the citizens of the state to remain alert, keep calm and follow and adopt all safety tips and measures, participate in disaster preparedness training and mock drills conducted by the Department of Disaster Management from time to time and to stay in safe places in order to avoid Tawang like disaster.
Pul asserted that the state govt is fully prepared to deal with any eventualities and NDRF and SDRF are in readiness.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa has expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives at Famla.
Governor announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh for the nearest kith and kin of each of the sixteen workers who died in the landslide.
The Governor also condoled the death of a 15 year old boy, Dipak Deori of Namsai, who lost his life in the Namsai flood. He also announced Rs. 1 lakh as ex-gratia. The amounts are sanctioned out of Governor's Relief Fund, which will be distributed through respective Deputy Commissioners.
The Governor further called upon the people of the state to be alert and take necessary precautions as the state is experiencing heavy rainfall. He also advised the state government and district administrations to warn the people living in landslide and flood prone areas.
The Deputy Commissioner Tawang Duly Kamduk has also released immediate relief of Rs fifty thousand.
Meanwhile, expressing shock over the incident, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has conveyed his condolences to the family members of the deceased. He further, appealed to the citizens to remain alert and avoid rampant cutting of trees and land cutting for selfish motives. People living in landslide prone areas and river banks should maintain extra vigil and if possible shift to safer areas, he added.
Meanwhile, Itanagar Buddhist Cultural Society (IBCS) strongly appealed to the District Administration and State Government to extend full support to the families of the vitamins.
It also appealed to the Department of Disaster Management to take all preventive measures to counter such natural calamities in the district in particular and state in general.
The rank and file of State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by party president Tapir Gao held a special condolence meeting at the Party head office here for those 16 people, who were buried alive by landslide at Tawang.
While expressing serious concern over the natural calamities occurring in various parts of the state, it asked the State Government to deploy disaster management teams to monitor the situation. Water logging cripple normal life in Pasighat

PASIGHAT, Apr 22: Torrential rain has thrown life out of gear in many parts of Pasighat. Two days of heavy downpour has submerged different parts of Pasighat despite the PMC's attempt to flush out the excess rainwater.
Main market (Gandhi Chowk), APP Colony, Judicial Jail area and Lower Banskota and many link roads are under water.
Meanwhile, Pasighat East MLA, Kaling Moyong accompanied by EE(PWD) T Jamoh, councilors, Mandal President, Obit Tamuk and other senior leaders visited all affected locations and took stock of the situation on Friday.
Expressing his dismay, MLA Moyong stated that the rainwater created flood like situation was manmade. Existing drainage system was damaged and blocked due to illegal constructions in few places while on the other hand, garbage in the uncovered drains has stopped flow of water, Moyong observed. He instructed the EE (PWD) to clear water logging on priority.
At the market area, Moyong advised the traders to maintain cleanliness and asked them not to block the drains. The MLA also assured to take up the issue with Chief Minister Kalikho Pul for immediate maintenance of the drains so that such situation is not repeated in future. Stating that stagnant water not only cripples normal life, but may also lead to spread of Dengue, Malaria, the MLA advised the municipal and health authorities to take all preventive measures.
Later, Moyong inspected the reconstruction work of shops in the market area, where 64 shops were burnt down in a massive fire accident on Jan 28. He instructed the contractor to expedite the work and to complete within fifteen days so that shop owners could start their businesses at the earliest. DIPRO
ZIRO: The continuous heavy downpour for past few days has inundated large number of paddy fields in most parts of Ziro Valley. The inundation resulted in washing away of huge numbers of fish causing heavy losses to the farmers.
The over flowing water has washed away paddy saplings planted recently as well damaged bunds. Many WRC fields at Lempia, Hong, Yadii and Hija were damaged due to excessive deposit of silt.
At RWD colony Hapoli, a government quarter was completely damaged by landslide. The dwellers had a narrow escape as they were camping at a safer place. The district administration has appealed all to be cautious and move to safer places until the rains recedes.
The rain and water inundation has hugely affected western part of Ziro valley, especially catchment areas of Sillang Sigang stream which is the lifeline of the western part of the valley.
Further, incessant rains triggered series of landslides in Yazali damaging many houses, horticultural gardens and WRC fields on Friday.
Efforts to control blindness in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Arunachal Pradesh has become the second highest blindness prevalent State behind Assam with cataract being the main cause of loss of eye sight at old age.
This was revealed during a state level consultative meeting organized by Vision 2020--India and National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB), Arunachal Pradesh unit.
The consultative meeting was organized to analysis and develop action plan for strengthening eye care services in Arunachal Pradesh
As per the national survey conducted by NPCB during 1986-89, the prevalence of blindness in Arunachal Pradesh was 1.23 percent. The number has increased to 2.28 percent in 2003-04 (as per Northeastern RAAB survey).
Non-availability of resources and under utilization of available resources, lack of ophthalmologists, patients' reluctance to undergo eye surgery, transportation expenses, thin density of population (17 per skim) besides lack of awareness have been identified as the main barrier in controlling blindness in the State.
It was informed that the total number of cataract surgeries performed during 2015-16 (April- December) by both government and NGOs were 1122 with Papum Pare leading the number with 740 surgeries followed by East Siang (132), Twang (51), West Siang (51), Changeling (43), Upper Siang (32), Upper Subansiri (28), Lower Subansiri (27) and Lohit (18).
Of the nine districts, four districts had only one free cataract eye camp each while there were no eye surgery camps held in 11 districts during that period.
There are only 14 ophthalmologists, 8 dedicated eye operation theatres (OTs), 2 general OTs available for eye surgery, equipments for surgery at 8 districts and 10 facilities beside State Mobile Unit. Of them, three OTs with equipments are lying idle due to lack of Ophthalmologists.
It was recommended that all the three defunct OTs and 10 facilities be made functional and strengthened with appointment of full-time Ophthalmologist. There should atleast be one Ophthalmologist in every district hospital with provision of OT, basic surgical and diagnostic equipments. The Hospitals needs to be equipped with advanced medical equipments and Vision Charts.
Moreover, 20 vision centres, which are not functional, can be handed over to NGOs/INGOs on PPP mode, it suggested.
Later, addressing the meeting, Health Commissioner Hage Kojeen assured to take up the recommendations with the State Government for needful action.
The Health Commissioner while taking serious note of the prevailing situation, stressed on reaching out to the people, identifying eye patients and motivating them for treatment involving the PRI members, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers.
He sought special package from the central government since there is only 10 percent matching grant provided by the State Government with no additional support and fund from NRHM for eye care.
It was disclosed in the meeting that district fund allocation is non-existent as the NCPB funds are pre allocated.
Further, NCPB funds are not fully utilized as the funds are transferred to State Health Society, very close to the end of the financial year.
He also sought help and support from various NGOs working in this field at national and international levels.
Kojeen hoped the experts attending the meeting from the State, country and representatives from NGOs working in this field will put forward ideas and knowledge for control of blindness in the State.
NHM Director PK Thungon stressed on vision screening at early stage at school level and training of the ASHAs, ANMs for identifying eye patients.
He also assured to look into the grey areas and make all defunct eye care centres functional.
Thungon called upon all, especially old-age persons with cataract and other eye diseases to come forward and get proper treatment to save the most precious gift of God.
Earlier, NPCB, Arunachal Pradesh Programme Office Dr. Taba Khanna highlighted the aim and objective of the meeting and Vission-2020.
Saga of bad roads and blockades

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: For the second consecutive day, denizens of capital complex had to bear the brunt of road blockade and bad road. Massive traffic jam was witnessed near Hotel PYBSS, Niba Hospital (Papu Nallah) and in the sector roads.
Life has been thrown out of gear due to incessant rain and pathetic condition of road.
To make matter worse, Tempos, the lifeline of the transport system of the capital has doubled its fare.
"One way fare from Ganga to Zero Point and vice versa have doubled to Rs 20 from existing Rs 10. This is unfortunate. Administration should take note of it," said an angry resident.
There is massive outpour of anger against those responsible for destroying the capital road and there is huge demand for initiating strong action against them.
"Most of the destruction caused to highway, arterial and sector roads is due to illegal earth cutting and illegal construction of buildings. Best example is blockade near Hotel PYBSS. Blockade of natural drain while constructing the hotel paved the way for this problem. Due to one person's mistake, whole capital is suffering. Likewise there are several instances where road have been destroyed owing to illegal construction. But no one raises their voice against it," said an agitated denizen of Itanagar.
Further he added, "Our people only make issue when they see some monetary benefit. It looks like they are only concerned about their own individual life."
During monsoon season every year Arunachal witnesses these kinds of incidents but no one seems to learn any lesson. On regular basis, district administration issues circular after circular banning all kind of illegal earth cutting along the highway and other roads. But most of the time order remains only in paper and hardly gets implemented. Also people often blame government for all the mess, little bothered about their own duty towards the state.
Recently, we have seen how the newly constructed Papu-Yupia section of Trans-Arunachal Highway got damaged at multiple places because of illegal earth cutting near the highway. Is not it duty of citizen to protect road for better future? They don't mind destroying public property for their personal greed but will not contribute single penny for reconstruction. The duty of the government is to create assets and it is duty of the public to zealously guard it.
In fact government of Arunachal should draft a new law proposing that whoever causes destruction of road should be made to pay for repairing the stretch of road damaged by them. It is time people of state lodge strong protest against those who create obstacles in the developmental process. By remaining silent, we are only encouraging the wrongdoer.
DA issues flood instruction
Tezu, Apr 22: Following incessant rain since last few weeks, Lohit DDMA has issued instructions to all the outpost administrative officers to monitor the flood situation in their respective jurisdiction. They were advised to submit hourly flood situation report to DM Cell Tezu. Water Resource department, Disaster Management Cell, District Medical and veterinary authorities were directed to remain alert and keep emergency services of their respective dept in readiness to tackle any disastrous situation.
All the rivers and rivulets are in rising trend but flowing below danger level on Friday according to an information received from DDMO Damchen Norbu.
Meanwhile, DC Lohit Danish Ashraf accompanied by SDO Hq, EAC Sunpura, DDMO, Tezu, AE, WRD visited all the flood prone areas of the district.
On Thursday, the team visited Changliang village where Durra River create havoc every summer and Sukhanala near Tezu Airport under Tezu circle.
On Friday, they visited flood vulnerable places of Sunpura circle including Dangku and Old Sunpura.
The team also visited the Relief Camps earmarked in the district.
DC has instructed WRD officials to take all necessary precautionary measures to save life and property.
DC suggested the residents of vulnerable places to remain alert as he appealed all to avoid fishing and other activities near rivers and low lying areas till rain stops.
Centre approves flood assistance for Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The Centre on Friday approved assistance of Rs 842.7 crore for Karnataka, Puducherry and Arunachal Pradesh, which have been affected by drought or floods.
The decision to provide assistance was taken by a high-level committee meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, an official spokesperson said.
The committee examined the proposals based on the report of the central team which visited Karnataka, affected by drought, and Puducherry and Arunachal Pradesh, which have been hit by floods.
An amount to the tune of Rs 723.23 crore was approved to Karnataka, Rs 35.14 crore was approved for Puducherry and Rs 84.33 crore for Arunachal Pradesh.
The central assistance of Rs 84.33 crore to Arunachal Pradesh includes Rs 18 crore under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP). The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and senior officers of the ministries of Home, Finance and Agriculture. Pasighat AIR Golden Jubilee celebration

PASIGHAT, Apr 22: The Golden Jubilee celebrations of the All India Radio Pasighat concluded with various programmes on Friday evening.
The AIR staffs with the help of local people started the Golden Jubilee celebration on March 6 this year.
The AIR station conducted broadcasting of programmes incorporating special messages from important personalities, interviews with senior citizens, women leaders and legendary artists to mark the celebration.
The concluding programme started with plantation in and around office premise in the morning, followed by a seminar on topic- 'Challenges of Akashvani to reach the unreached' and various cultural presentations.
Addressing the seminar, Additional Director General (ADG), ER & NER of AIR (Guwahati), Deven Basumatary said the AIR stations set up in Arunachal Pradesh were working with many challenges due to its complex geographical location. The radio centre at Pasighat has completed its 50-year service amidst the challenges, which needs introspection to assess its quality of service. He requested the people to share constructive suggestion to achieve their goal in broadcasting profession defying the challenges.
Addressing in the technical session of the seminar, Professor SN Jha of JN College, Pasighat termed radio as most powerful system of communication. He affirmed that AIR is striving to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation, while it is promoting interest and concern of the nation. Jha said that radio broadcasting has some advantages that it is low cost and accessible even in isolated areas.
Renowned writer Kaling Borang who discussed on various challenges in addressing the issues pertaining to children, women and senior citizens, termed them vulnerable group. He stressed on production of special programme for the groups in order to attract their attention.
AIR Pasighat was established in 1966. Initially, the power of the transmitter was only 1.5 Watt covering only Pasighat township. Now, the station serves more than one lakh population covering East Siang and parts of West Siang, Upper Siang and Dibang Valley districts. It has a very rich collection of folk songs, particularly of the Adi community.
As a testimony of untiring efforts of the AIR staffs, the centre has won two national awards for its continuous effort in production of value based folklores and mythology of local tribal community. Moreover, it has been organizing annual event called 'Siang Music Festival' in order to create awareness on the need to preserve indigenous culture.
Observer stress on empowerment and cleanliness

ZIRO, Apr 22: Director, Heavy Industries, GOI and Observer for 'Gram Uday se Bharat Uday', Pravin Kumar visited Ziro on Friday attended a meeting as a part of the Panchayat Day celebration in government secondary school, Tajang where he emphasised on women empowerment and cleanliness in the villages.
Commending the government's developmental efforts in the hilly difficult terrains, Kumar exhorted the gram members and the public gathered to judiciously use the funds allotted for developmental activities. The knowledge about the welfare schemes rolled out by the government should be disseminated to all, he added and suggested for Prabhat ferries displaying placards and slogans about these schemes.
EAC cum Member Secretary, Panchayati Raj, Mokar Riba spoke in detail about the 'My Village My Development' programme said that gram sabhas will decide and chose the projects on priority and for the village. The true essence of decentralization will be finally realized through this programme, he added.
DPDO Nending Chatung also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was organised by the Panchayat Development Office in collaboration with the Field Publicity Office, Ziro.
As a part of the Panchayati Raj Day celebration, a gram sabha was also organised in the presence of the observer to select a proposal for the fund allotted under MVMDP to Tage Sii Leyu Anchal Segment. Accordingly, a retaining wall for the general ground was selected on voice vote. Gram Chairperson Tage Rika conducted the proceedings.
Later, Pravin Kumar along with the PRI members and officials also inspected developmental works carried out by the Panchayat. He also interacted with the public to get first hand information about their awareness on government policies and programmes. The department of Field Publicity also distributed publicity materials on the occasion.
Meanwhile, a daylong district level session on "Participatory Planning: My Village My Development Plan" was organized commemorating Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan on Friday at Amik Ringya Hall, Tezu.
The session was organised by the district administration in coordination with the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) and State Panchayat Resource Centre (SPRC), Itanagar.
Addressing the gathering, ZPM Sunpura, B. Tega called for a coordinated approach and engagement of civil society for the development of rural poor, women and physically handicapped people.
Speaking on the occasion, ZPM Tezu, H.Kri emphasized on strengthening health, education, power and connectivity for ensuring development in the villages. Resource person, Dr. Jajati K. Pattnaik, Associate Professor Political Science, Indira Gandhi Government College emphasized on the relevance of grass root governance for the emergence of people centric development and suggested mechanisms for the social and financial inclusion of the people who are struggling at the bottom line.
Dr. M.S Sharma, Associate Professor in Hindi, Indira Gandhi Government College also spoke in the session.
All the District Heads of the line departments made their presentations on various schemes available for the village development.
Earlier, Co-coordinator of the programme, SDO, Tezu, Gautam Hazarika exhorted upon the participants to fulfill the vision of Mahatma Gandhi's Gram Swaraj through collective efforts for the empowerment of the people at the village level.

Repair Old Ziro, Hapoli road: Org

ZIRO, Apr 22: Expressing concern at the deteriorating road condition between Old Ziro to Hapoli, the All Ziro Hapoli Youth Association (AZHYA) and All Apatani Ziro Hapoli Tempo Association (AAZHTA) has requested the Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner to direct the concern authority to repair the road immediately.
The associations also called for speeding up the ongoing construction of township road.
In a joint memorandum to the DC, the associations stated that the deteriorating road condition of Ziro-Hapoli including the road from Hapoli to Old Ziro is creating public nuisance.
Although the new construction of cement pavement road of Hapoli township is ongoing but it is slow and affecting pedestrian movement, causing traffic jams and affecting the shops as some had to shut down their business establishments, it added.
Further, it stated that the commercial vehicles and passengers plying between Hapoli to Old Ziro are facing lots of inconvenience due to the pathetic road condition.
Governor invites investors to Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Apr 21: Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa inaugurated an International Symposium on Herbal Sweetener, 'Sweet Revolution-Stevia, a Boon to Diabetics' organized by the Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab in collaboration with Industry Green Valley Stevia, Banga, in its University Campus on Thursday.
In his inaugural address, the Governor invited researchers to come to Arunachal Pradesh and take up trials for it production. He assured that pristine land will be made available and necessary assistance will be provided.
As it has been successful in Assam, the production of Stevia will be successful in sub tropical areas of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Assam also, he opined.
Besides, Arunachal Pradesh with barely 5% fertilizer consumption can be made an organic hub for Stevia and other such high paying cash crops including horticultural plants. Only the certification procedure should be simplified and affordable to the common farmer, he pointed out.
Addressing the large number of representatives from industries and business on the occasion, the Governor highlighted on the potentials of Arunachal Pradesh and informed that it has adopted the state Public Private Partnership Policy, paving the way for private investment in various sectors. Traffic advisory
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The traffic will be diverted in Naharlagun from 8AM-1PM on April 25 to facilitate Mock Drill Exercise for earthquake preparedness being conducted by the district administration.
A traffic advisory from SP Capital informed that the vehicles coming from Itanagar will have to take compulsory left at Yupia-Doimukh-Nirjuli and vehicles coming from Nirjuli side to Itanagar will have to avail the route leading from G-Extension diversion points Naharlagun to Polo Colony-D-Sector.
BSNL cables damaged
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The team cleaning the culvert to drain off the Flood/Rain water accumulated near Hotel Pybss, Itanagar have damaged the BSNL's Under Ground Cable network on Thursday. Due to this, 3000 BSNL Land Lines/Broad Bands between D-Sector to Chandan Nagar including ESS Sector, E-Sector, Ganga, Abotani Colony, F-Sector are cut off from the rest of the BSNL Telephone Network.
A total of five numbers of 800 Pair and ten 400 Pair Primary Cables of BSNL were damaged along with the distribution Cables , informed officials.
Deputy General Manager, Marketing informed that restoration may take time.
Make nation proud: Governor
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Be the best and make the North East Region and the nation proud of you, Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa advised the students of the North Eastern region studying at the Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara on Thursday.

Earthquake mock drill in Naharlagun
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The Disaster Management Authority, Capital Complex will organize disaster awareness and earthquake mock drills by creating a real life earthquake scenario in Naharlagun area on April 25.
The mock drill would be conducted at various locations in Naharlagun such as Tomo Riba State Hospital, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Police Colony, Market areas from 8 am to 1 pm.
The earthquake shaking warning would be given out at 8.50 am through the PCR vans. Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Singh, who also is the Chairman of the DDMA in a meeting on Friday briefed on the roles and responsibilities of all the stakeholders, including the Task forces.
A pre briefing session would be conducted at KV-I, Tomo Riba State Hospital and Police Colony Naharlagun on April 23 to sensitize the public and stakeholders on various Dos and Don'ts during and after earthquake. The DC further took stock of the entire preparation for the mock drill including, relief camp, volunteers, machineries etc from the EAC Naharlagun Hento Karga, who also will be the Incident Commander.
He requested the representative of KV-I, Tomo Riba State Hospital and Police Colony to cooperate with the DDMA and to further sensitize others so that mock drill could be conducted in the right manner without creating any kind of panic among the citizens of Capital Complex.
Capital Complex SP Devendra Arya briefed on the role of Police during such disaster. He informed that the internal VHF set are more reliable for communication during disaster as telecommunication may get disrupted and further asked his officers to be well prepared even for manual communication. He also directed the concern OCs to select responders at every Police Station for immediate response.

Arunachalee boy rescued
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: An Arunachalee boy has been rescued from Guwahati railway station by the Child Welfare Committee, Guwahati. The boy aged around 7 year old has been identified as Tai John from Palin under Kra Daadi district. The boy is under the custody of Child Welfare Committee since last one month.

Meanwhile, Byabang Joram, president of All Nyishi Students Union contacted the member of Child Welfare Committee and enquired about the condition of boy. Joram has assured to extend all possible help to locate the parents of the boy.
Dego village holds Kishan Sabha
AALO, Apr 22: A village Kishan Sabha as a part of "Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan" was conducted at Dego village on April 20.
Speaking on the occasion, Aalo CO Murnya Kakki urged the Panchayat Members and villagers to maintain Swacch Bharat Abhiyan for beautification and well being of the village.
As a resource person, Agriculture Development Officer, Jumdo Jini elaborated on various schemes and flagship programmes undertaken by the department and urged them to avail the schemes from the department.
HDO, H. Dirchi highlighted various schemes and flagship programmes initiated by the Horticulture department such as Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Yojna, Mission for Integrated development for Horticulture and promotion of integrated pest management.
The Field Publicity Officer also guided the Panchayat Leaders and villagers to avail all developmental schemes and utilize it for proper development of the village.

‘Act positive, think positive to overcome challenges in life’
IITANAGAR, Apr 22: Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu Principal Dr. Tasi Taloh exhorted his students to act and think positive to overcome challenged and achieve the desired goal in life.
Addressing the inaugural session of a day-long "Motivational Workshop on Positive Attitude" in the college, Dr. Taloh illustrated with examples how positive attitude can be a life-changing as he asked the students to imbibe the spirit of positive attitude to overcome challenges in life.

DDSE refutes allegation of fund misappropriation
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: DDSE, East Siang has refuted the allegation of misappropriation of funds for school renovation/repairing and maintenance works, made by the AdiSU as baseless.
The fund allocated by the government of Arunachal Pradesh was actually utilized as per the provision of financial guidelines and observing all codal formalities. The work of renovation/repairing of educational building in some schools are on progress and some of them are already completed, said the DDSE, refuting the allegations.
The amounts have been directly transferred to concern SMC school account/contractor through SBI Pasighat to avoid lapse of fund, he further informed.
Regarding procurement of school furniture/provision for water tank, the DDSE office is yet to receive the supply articles from the firms/suppliers, the clarification read while adding that the DDSE is only a supervising/monitoring body.
A board has been already constituted by the Deputy Commissioner on April 6th last to verify the work of various educational block of the district under the chairmanship of concern ADC, the letter read.
Labour awareness campaign
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: A labour awareness campaign was held at Supple under Boleng administration circle of Siang district on Tuesday last. The programme was organized by All Arunachal Labour Union Siang District Unit. Labour commissioner Ojing Darung attended the event.
Commissioner shared with labourer about various schemes of state government under the banner of APB&OCWWB.

DA clears ROW
AALO, Apr 22: Several structures falling within Right of Way (RoW) were removed in the fourth eviction drive carried out by the district administration at Bogdo, Hikar Gumin and Police colony in Aalo township on Friday.
The structures were dismantled using JCBs and trucks of Urban Department. The team consisted of Estate Officer cum ADC, Tamik Talom, Circle Officer, O. Apang, DLR&SO, Pumek Ronya, Police led by Olik Tamut and officials from line departments. DIPRO
Meeting on PMKSY held
NAMSAI, Apr 22: The first round of the DLIC meeting under Pradhan Mantri Krishi SinchayeeYojana (PMKSY) of Namsai district was held at the DC's chamber on April 20.
The prime agenda of the meeting was to finalise modalities for preparation of District Irrigation Plan for Namsai district under PMKSY for onward submission to the state govt.

Approve land compensation award: PAPF
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The Project Affected Peoples' Forum under EHEPCL 3097MW has appealed for immediate approval of the land compensation against the acquisition of the community land in Dibang Valley district.
In its representation submitted to the chief minister, it expressed unhappiness that the land compensation is yet to be approved by the concern authorities despite repeated representations.
It is regrettable that though the public hearing is over, neither the project proponent nor the state government has shown interest in materializing the charter of demands, the letter read.
AADHAR card for doctors
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Indian Medical Association (IMA) Arunachal State Branch in collaboration with Lyra Consultancy Service, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh conducted a AADHAR card special drive for doctors and their families at Tomo Riba State Hospital Naharlagun on Friday.
A total of 196 doctors and their family members were enrolled. The mobile camp was organized in view of busy and odd duty schedule of the doctors.
1st Arunachal handicapped idol
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The All Arunachal Pradesh Handicapped Youth Welfare Society (AAPHYWA) is all set to come up with the 1st Arunachal handicapped Idol 2016.
The audition for the event will begin from May 25 next at Tezu, the Lohit district headquarters, and will be held all across the state till August 6 next at Itanagar.
The mega audition will be held from September 25 to 30 next and the first competition round will be held on October 8 next.
Students demand ATM for Mechukha
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The All Mechukha Sub-Division Division Youth Welfare Association (AMSDYWA) has sought installation of two State Bank of India (SBI) ATM at Mechukha as the town doesn't have a single ATM. The association has written to the regional manager, SBI, in this regard.
It further claimed that the lone SBI branch located in the town gets very crowded making it very inconvenient for the customers.
